Speaking
What should you look for in a speaker? If you are looking for a public speaker or presenter, find someone who has had success and experience in that area. In other words – don’t get financial advice from a person in debt and on the verge of bankruptcy!
"Did he come here to watch me die?"
Those eight words, scribbled in anger on a piece of paper, were the last words my mother said to me. How do you answer a question like that when I had come there to watch her die? It was one month past my twenty-sixth birthday. I was living in San Diego and enjoying a fairly comfortable life.
That changed within the course of only two weeks. At twenty-six, I knew so little about surviving train wrecks. What I’ve learned since then is that everyone faces difficulties. Some people will bounce back from the worst of defeats while others face lesser challenges and quit. What I’m interested in is why.

Most of the lessons I’ve learned about surviving train wrecks I learned the hard way – by making mistakes. Unfortunately, I don’t have a magic wand that eliminates the pain of train wrecks. A broken leg or heart still hurts and hurts really bad. I’d like to tell you that you will never walk with a limp, but you might. Your wound might heal, better and stronger than before. The scar doesn’t hurt anymore, but it’s there as a reminder.

“The end goal isn’t merely survival but learning how to thrive again. It’s about taking the hard, nasty parts of life and finding a way to repurpose them into something useful.”
